Gear Modifications To Mitigate Bycatch Problems

Coonamessett Farm was engaged as a consultant to WWF UK to prepare a report on the technology available to mitigate problems associated with bycatch in European fisheries. The project entailed a review of worldwide literature examining successful means of reducing bycatch. Bycatch problems in European fisheries were identified and suggestions for gear modifications to mitigate these problems were compiled. The report also discusses pitfalls in implementation of gear modifications. Habitat/gear interaction issues are covered as well.
